The askmyGP system allows the patient to state a preference of GP from a drop-down list of those working that day. 60% of patients opt for “any”, but those who prefer a certain GP can choose them. This way of working enables on the day continuity, rather than having waits of 2 weeks or more if you want to see a specific clinician, which is the current model in many practices. Reception can also route patients to particular GP’s if desirable, for example if they have a problem which the practice has a specialist GP for. Equally, if everyone opts for the same GP, reception can still share them out to avoid one GP becoming overloaded.
